Best Short Hikes in California's Southern Sierra
We have had this book for years, and done parts of several of the included hikes--Rainbow Falls (from Devil's Postpile), Indian Pools, Mystery Lake.
But now the kids are older, the weather was perfect, and we opted to do a hike we have wanted to do for a long time.
Bald Mountain Lookout. The very first hike in the book. Listed as "3.5 miles round trip".
It's not. It's 3.25 miles one way. 6.5 miles round trip. This hike is very obviously much longer than stated (just ask my whiny kids). The Forest Service handout on this hike also says the hike is 3.5 miles round trip. Which leads me to believe the authors have not done this hike, though it is an easily accessible day trip.
So disappointing.
